Q. How many merger and acquisition transactions are there in the M&A Insight database?
A. As of Oct 2008 there were over 17,000 merger and acquisition transactions in the M&A Insight database. New transactions are added weekly.

Q. What is the distribution between Mid-Cap and Large-Cap transactions?
A. Mid-Cap transactions, companies sold for between $1 million and $250 million with a median equity value of $14.5 million, represent 63 percent of the M&A Insight database of M&A transactions. Large-Cap transactions, companies sold for over $250 million, account for 37 percent of the database.

Q. What percent of the M&A Insight transactions are private deals?
A. Over 40 percent of the companies sold in the M&A Insight database were privately held prior to the sale. All of these privately held sellers in the M&A Insight database were acquired by publicly owned companies, which are required to report such sales to the S.E.C. There are no private-to-private transactions in the M&A Insight database, since such data is not required to be made public.

Q. What are the sources of the M&A Insight merger and acquisition transaction data?
A. M&A Insight monitors numerous business sources including publications, reports, SEC filings, and online reporting services on a daily basis to track mergers and acquisitions as well as issues impacting M&A activities in selected industries.  Our professional analysts subscribe to a number of proprietary information sources and compile the most meaningful transaction data into a single easy-to-use source.

Obviously, If you expect to require data on multiple industries over the course of a year, a full subscription to the database is often a better value – not only can you perform unlimited data searches, but you also have access to the most recent transaction data updates to the database.

Q. What is the best way to use the M&A Insight merger and acquisition transaction data?
A. First, Business valuation professionals, Investment Bankers, Lawyers, Accountants, Company presidents, CEOs and CFOs are chiefly concerned with the industry in which their clients/companies operate.  These professionals are concerned with their company's industries but also the companies/industries in which their suppliers and customers operate.  Thus, the most meaningful information M&A Insight can provide is transactional data by "industry", which M&A Insight groups by 4-digit S.I.C. code.  Second, searches can also be made by "size" either transaction size or sellers' revenue size.  Third, professionals may want to further narrow their search by "time frame", or any combination of such search criteria.  M&A Insight provides all of this critical decision data in graphical and tabular formats for quick analysis. Specific transaction detail can also be exported for additional analysis.
